Yesterday /13.10.2015/ the City of Skopje was presented at the 13th edition of the “OPEN DAYS - European Week of Regions and Cities” which was held in Brussels from 12th to 15th October. In the frameworks of this traditional event, the City of Skopje, for the first time, organized an Open Day, which was be held at the Mission of the Republic of Macedonia in Brussels, where the present guests and participants of the OPEN DAYS had the opportunity to become familiar with the Macedonian traditional cuisine, wine and music.
The Open Day of Skopje was attended by the Mayor of the City of Skopje, Mr. Koce Trajanovski, the Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia at the Mission of the Republic of Macedonia in the European Union, HE Andrej Lepavcov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE Nikola Popovski, the President of the Council of the City of Skopje, Ms. Irena Misheva, members of the Council of the City of Skopje and representatives of the city administration.
- “The City of Skopje, during these couple of days, has been presented in Brussels, within “OPEN DAYS - European Week of Regions and Cities”. We have organized a Day of the City of Skopje in Brussels, at which a number of visitors had the possibility to become familiar with Skopje and its beauties and prospects This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a number of friends and experiences from cities and regions throughout Europe, which will contribute to the greater involvement of the City of Skopje in the European institutions” – said the Mayor of the City of Skopje, Mr. Koce Trajanovski.
“OPEN DAYS - European Week of Regions and Cities” is a traditional four day event which has, for the first time, been organized in 2003 by the Committee of the Regions in European Union. On this event, cities and regions throughout Europe shall have the opportunity to present themselves in front of the public, thus enhancing the cooperation on local and regional level in Europe. OPEN DAYS represent an excellent platform for networking between cities and regions, as well as sharing experiences and good practices in many areas, such as the economic development and social inclusion, public-private partnership, cross-border cooperation, regional innovations and local economic development. Therefore, within OPEN DAYS in Brussels, numerous seminars, debates and workshops were organized, at which the members of the Council of the City of Skopje also took part.
Within the “OPEN DAYS - European Week of Regions and Cities”, the Mayor of the City of Skopje, Mr. Koce Trajanovski signed the “Green Digital Charter”.
- “The City of Skopje became the 48th city in Europe and the first city from the Western Balkan countries to have signed this Charter. By signing this Charter, cities agree, through cooperation with other signatories-cities, with an increased use of Information and Communication Development Technologies to undertake activities for protection of human environment and increasing the energy efficiency” – pointed the Mayor of the City of Skopje, Mr. Koce Trajanovski.
This year, some 6,000 representatives from more than 200 regions and cities throughout Europe shall participate at the “OPEN DAYS - European Week of Regions and Cities”, while over 140 debates and workshops are to be held in the working part.
