Social Car
SocialCar is an innovative approach to urban transport demand management and more specifically to carpooling in urban areas.
SocialCar integrates open public transport data, crowdsourcing from travellers and innovative algorithms on the edge of ICT solutions and available infrastructures. SocialCar aims at exploiting the impressive potential effects that could be generated by social network concepts on green driving support systems.
Starting from this key point, SocialCar intends to develop an open and public data integration system as a leverage to promoting effective Carpooling service to citizens, representing a complementary transport mode that extends Public transport networks, evolving them in social and intelligent mobility networks.
SocialCar specific objectives are:
• Overcoming the limitations of current carpooling practices moving from long trips to effective urban use
• Developing a new carpooling model, targeted to optimise the inter-modality system of carpooling with existing transport and mobility services of EU cities
• Enhancing carpooling spreading through widely used and easy to interact communication channels
• Aggregating individual and spot initiatives within an integrated multilingual citizens platform
• Producing a city-based open integrated mobility repository of public transport and traffic city-based data
• Maximizing the availability of mobility data coming from different data sources, first of all Public Transport and rail, harmonizing them through the extension of standard open protocols
• Shoving of GNSS European technology promoting, for carpooling, the use of car-sharing private services equipped with Galileo services
• Contributing to the EU2020 targets on energy efficiency and renewable energy sources
