According to the Decision on Internal Organization of the City of Skopje, the Sector for Financial Affairs is organized in several departments and has the following competencies:

Competencies
In accordance with the amendments to the Decision on the organization, scope and manner of performance of the tasks of the administration of the City of Skopje, the Financial Affairs Department performs the following responsibilities:
- matters related to the preparation and execution of the budget of the City of Skopje:
- management monitoring and control of the condition and movement of assets and sources of funds in the City of Skopje:
- accounting of the City of Skopje:
- performs financial management and control activities (planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting):
- determination and collection of taxes, fees and charges that are revenue of the City of Skopje:
- coordinates its work with the work of other departments within the city administration and performs other activities based on the Law on Budgets, the Law on Financing Local Self-Government Units, the Law on the City of Skopje, the Law on Public Internal Financial Control, and other laws; regulations governing the sources of revenue for the City of Skopje and the municipalities of the City of Skopje, accounting for budgets and budget users, and other matters in the area of financial operations.
