Petre Shilegov was born on June 12, 1969 in Skopje.

He finished secondary education at the then-high school "Boris Kidric" and graduated from the Law Faculty at the University "Cyril and Methodius" in Skopje in 1995.

Two years later, in 1997, he passed the bar exam and started his professional career as a lawyer at the 1999 law firm "Petre Shilegov".

In 2005 he was chairman of the Second Instance State Appeal Commission for Public Procurement. Since 2013 he has been the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia's supporter until 2016 when he was elected vice-president of the party.

At the parliamentary elections in 2014 he was elected MP in the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia. Second consecutive term as a MP receives the parliamentary elections in 2016 and this function runs until October 2017.

Within the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, he has been an active member of several parliamentary commissions and councils among which is the president of the Inquiry Commission for the scandal of wiretapping, a member of the Standing Inquiry Committee for Protection of Civil Freedoms and Rights and a President of the Parliamentary Group of the Assembly of the Republic of the Republic Macedonia for cooperation with the Parliament of the Czech Republic and others.

After winning the first round of local elections in 2017, he began his term as mayor of the City of Skopje, becoming the first mayor of the City of Skopje from the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia.

Mayor Shilegov was elected the first vice president of the Network of Associations of Local Authorities of South East Europe (NALAS) in April 2018, a network of 14 associations representing about 9000 local governments directly elected by an electorate that has more than 80 million citizens in the south- Eastern Europe.

Petre Shilegov is married and father of two children.
